Tunnel Infection

Hello— it appears that Emy’s tunnel is infected. This is the skin and tissue surrounding Emy’s catheter. Please pray that this resolves and isn’t a major setback. I’m not sure how effective the treatment of a tunnel can be. Please pray that this infection doesn’t impact her dialysis routine.

As mentioned in the last post, she is also breathing fast. This is because her lungs are wet. Please pray that the fluid can be taken off and that her breathing returns to normal.

If she cannot continue with peritoneal dialysis, they may try using Aquadex on her. Please pray that she can continue with peritoneal dialysis and that her infection resolves. Please also pray for me as this is upsetting me more than it should.

  1. Lifting you all up in prayer. Again, thank you for taking the time time to update us. And please offer up and accept Grace for yourself and how you feel. You are a mother as many of us are, but your situation and experience is uniquely your own. There is no right or wrong way to feel about it. Emy is your baby girl. No Mama wants to watch her baby go through this and feel like she cannot stop what’s happening. You can feel anyway you need to. Your soul is cracking open, but remember cracks are how the light get in. You’ve got this! And…I had a vision of finally meeting Emy when she is 3 or 4. She was standing with you both. It was a beautiful vision with all of you smiling. This is a journey, a really tough one, but you do not walk it alone.

    1. Thank you for sharing this encouragement. I received it in my email and read it a while ago but have been a bit slow to respond on the website; my apologies. It was a blessing when you shared it and helped lift me out of some difficult emotions. I am so thankful we have had many wonderful moments with Emy so far and am praying she continues to overcome the obstacles that she has in her path. Thank you for praying for our family.

  2. We are praying for her and asking Pastor Tom to pray for her too.  What caused her to have these problems?? Much love, dad “Kindness is the oil that reduces the friction of life.” Michael Carrizales

    1. Hi dad! Whenever a foreign object is in your body, that increases the risk of developing an infection. Since Emy has a catheter spanning from her chest to her lower abdomen, she is at an increased risk of developing an infection. Thankfully, it seems the exit site and tunnel were not truly infected, but irritated. Also, we just learned that her infection scare from this weekend was likely a false positive, so it was not a true infection. The sample was likely contaminated. She is doing well right now. Thank you for your prayers!
